Chris Evans opens up about his ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ comeback

Chris Evans is breaking his silence on his long awaited Marvel return, revealing what convinced him to reprise his role as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday.

During a San Diego Comic-Con interview, the actor disclosed that the studio proposed a number of options for bringing his character back after Avengers: Endgame, however he felt none suited the role.

In chat with Entertainment Weekly, he said, "When we finished Endgame in 2018, Lou [D’Esposito] and Kevin [Feige] took me to dinner and they were like, 'We'd love to keep doing movies with Steve Rogers as Nomad.'"

He added, "They showed me a pitch, and it was a great pitch, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t feel right at the time."

Moreover, he revealed, "I got a phone call from my team saying there’s a rumor [Robert Downey Jr. is] talking to Marvel," he recalled. "And all of a sudden it felt right... it was like, 'This is it.'"

Additionally, the actor also said he remains open to future MCU appearances, noting, "I guess it’s a never-say-never," but stressed he would only return if the story feels right.
