Pinocchio, a timeless classic fantasy written by Italian author Carlo Collodi, was adapted in to a movie as 1911’s The Adventures of Pinocchio.
However, the story is now getting a horror spinoff Pinocchio: Unstrung in 2026 by Poohniverse, a Twisted Childhood Universe.
After the first look of the horror Jiminy Cricket was released, fans turned to social media to express their disappointment.
Instead of being a wise advisor to the titular character, Jiminy is made in to a life-size villain, who is visibly “scary.”
The fictional role is being voiced by Robert Englund, which seems to be the only thing that excites admirers.
One of the X user was horrified as they wrote on the platform: “What a horrible day to have eyes,” while another noted that it “just got a horror glow-up.”
A third netizen pointed out that it “is absolutely terrifying.” Someone questioned the concept and the creators: “What are they trying to do here? This is demonic.”
Meanwhile, a critic addressed the British series changing the plot, penning down: “I don’t know why they are so hellbent on spoiling these innocent stories.”
On the other hand, few appreciated the new instalment, looking forward to the “entertaining” project.
The horror twist of childhood stories are not appreciated by many due to strong association with them and nostalgia that they bring to the viewers.
The motion picture is expected to hit the theatres in 2026.
