Buckingham Palace confirms Trumps state visit with major changes

Unlike previous state visits, the public will not see the US President on his first day, as all engagements will take place within the private Windsor estate.

The usual carriage procession will be confined to Home Park rather than the bustling streets of Windsor, as was the case during President Emmanuel Macron’s visit in July.

Another break with tradition sees Trump skipping London entirely.

Instead of paying respects at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey, he and First Lady Melania Trump will privately lay a wreath at the Tomb of Queen Elizabeth II inside St George’s Chapel, followed by a short tour and performance from the chapel choir.

Security is expected to be intense, with mass protests already planned by the Stop Trump Coalition in Windsor and London.

Still, the visit will feature royal pomp, including a ceremonial welcome in Windsor Castle’s quadrangle and a glittering state banquet in St George’s Hall for 160 guests, where both King Charles and President Trump will deliver speeches.

In a first for a UK state visit, the programme also includes a Red Arrows and F-35 fighter jet flypast, plus a Beating Retreat military ceremony on Windsor Castle’s East Lawn.

The visit concludes with the Queen showing Melania Trump Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and the Royal Library, while Trump meets Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at Chequers.
