Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, has revealed that he once held a private meeting with Princes William and Harry, where the brothers pressed him for insights into their late mother’s life.
Burrell, who worked with the royals for over two decades and was a close confidant of Diana, recalled that in 2017 Harry contacted him directly.
Speaking to The Telegraph, he said: “The boys contacted me by letter and said we would like to see you at Kensington Palace. They were unclear about what happened in the Kensington years.”
The princes reportedly wanted to know where their parents’ marriage began to unravel. Burrell admitted he was hesitant but remembered Harry urging him: “Yes, I do want to know,” while William remained silent.
The revelation comes ahead of the release of Burrell’s new memoir, The Royal Insider: My Life with the Queen, the King and Princess Diana, out September 11.
Explaining why he chose to write another tell-all, Burrell, 67, said the Queen’s passing made him reflect on his own mortality. “Life is just a tapestry of memories and then it’s over,” he said.
