Emma Stone, who is known for her role in La La Land, made a stunning appearance at the premiere of her project Bugonia only to receive criticism for her action.
Although the actress’ movie earned a long standing ovation, Emma greeted Willem Dafoe with a kiss on the red carpet like Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey.
The two Hollywood stars looked each other in the eye before going in for a kiss, a gesture that was widely called out by the online community.
One of the X users questioned why “is this even a thing Friends kissing after not seeing each other for a long time.”
Another wrote this is “your average Hollywood tradition where they all have to kiss each other on the lips as formal greeting.”
A third one poked fun at the Cruella lead, writing: “She has some explanation to do [to] her man” as the actress is married to Dace McCary.
Many jumped in to defend the two actors, insisting the greeting was purely “platonic and not intimate to them.”
It is to be noted that Scarlett, who is married to Colin Jost, was earlier called out after she shared a similar moment with Jonathan at the Jurassic World Rebirth screening.
After their red carpet appearance, the two clarified in separate interviews that it was their way of showing love to their “friends.”
While celebrities continue to celebrate their platonic bonds in different ways, their “new trend” is seemingly not sitting well with their fans.
