Sarah Jessica Parker is humbled by her popular rom-com fandom

Emmy-winning actress Sarah Jessica Parker remains in awe of Sex and the City’s devoted fandom, which continues to be passed down from generation to generation.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Parker reflected on the impact of the HBO series, how it has stood the test of time, and the special place it still holds in the hearts of its original fans, who now share that love with younger audiences.

"It's hard to describe what it has meant, not just to me, but to all of us, because you feel words are inadequate," Parker said, referring to herself and co-stars Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon.

Watching Sex and the City’s fanbase grow across generations, through the original series, its films and now its spinoffs, is, as the mother of three describes it, an unmatched experience.

"To watch an entire new generation discover the show, make it their show, have all these very strong feelings about it,” the actress explained. “Not all that are positive even … and then to see them having those conversations with their parents, who were our initial audience, you can't plan for these things.”

Parker stressed that no one can deliberately create a series meant to span generations, “because then it’s not real.”

"It's a kind of humbling gratitude that is very hard to find adequate words to express,” Parker added.
