Emmy-winning actor Josh Duhamel has geared up for a potential apocalypse, at least somewhat, as he opened up about his so-called “doomsday cabin.”

Speaking with PEOPLE, the Transformers star revealed details about his Minnesota hideaway, which he refers to as his “doomsday cabin,” and why he believes it could withstand even an end-of-the-world scenario.

"Well, I have enough," Duhamel said with a laugh. "Not 100%. Probably 70%."

The Buddy Games director admitted the cabin still needs work before it’s fully self-reliant, whether for everyday living or unexpected emergencies.

"I could be a better hunter, I could be a better fisherman. I could stockpile a little more food supply," he admitted.

More than a decade ago, Duhamel bought a half-parcel of land in his home state of North Dakota, about 90 minutes from Fargo. He gradually built a rustic cabin by hand, later expanding the property. For years, the lakeside retreat remained completely off-grid, without electricity, running water, or modern amenities.

Explaining what drew him there in the first place, Duhamel said: “I love making movies and TV shows, I really do, but I felt this calling.”

That calling, he explained, was “to get back to working with my hands, fixing, building, and doing the simple things we so often take for granted.”

Still, he insists it’s not about prepping for doomsday. "People want to call it a doomsday prepper thing, but it's really not that," he clarified. "I'm more of a guy who wants to stay true to my roots, get back to the basics, hone whatever basic skills I need."

The Emmy-winner added that he doesn’t believe there’s any “dire situation” to worry about, but admitted: “It is good to have some of those skills."
