Prince Harry's emotional UK return timed with Queen's death anniversary
While Meghan is expected to remain in California with kids, Harry’s visit underscores his commitment to the charity
Prince Harry is preparing for an emotional return to the UK this September, one that will coincide with a heartbreaking royal milestone.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, is due to attend the 2025 WellChild Awards on September 8 in London, marking his first visit to Britain since April.
Harry has been patron of the charity for years, and the annual ceremony honours children battling serious illnesses as well as their caregivers.
But this year’s event carries extra weight, as it falls on the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death.
The late monarch passed away on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral Castle.
At the awards, Harry will meet each winner and their families, host a reception, deliver a speech, and present the Award for Inspirational Child.
“I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit,” Harry said in a statement.
While Meghan Markle is expected to remain in California with Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, Harry’s solo visit underscores his ongoing commitment to the UK charity, despite ongoing security battles and family tensions since leaving royal life in 2020.
