Why Prince Williams vision for the throne could backfire

Prince William’s vision for a streamlined monarchy could prove risky, a royal expert has warned, as the future King prepares for major changes in both his personal life and royal role.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are set to leave Adelaide Cottage for Forest Lodge, an eight-bedroom home in Windsor described as their “forever” residence.

While the move promises a “fresh start” for the couple and their three children, royal commentator Robert Jobson believes William’s long-term strategy could fundamentally shift how the monarchy is perceived.

Speaking to The Sun, Jobson suggested that William’s alleged plan to cut the number of working royals might weaken the institution’s connection with the public.

“People do turn out when they see, particularly people like Sophie Wessex and the new Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward. They like that connection. And if you lose that connection, the monarchy actually loses something that it’s about,” he explained.

Jobson cautioned that royal duty cannot be treated lightly, stressing: “The role of the monarch is one where duty has to come first. It’s a job for life, and it’s pretty relentless.”

With only 11 current working royals following Harry and Meghan’s 2020 exit, William’s streamlined approach will be closely watched as he balances fatherhood and his future reign.
