Sydney Sweeney’s latest big-screen effort, Americana, has stumbled out of the gate at the box office amid latest controversy.

The 27-year-old actress, sparked outrage earlier this year with an American Eagle campaign playing on the words “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans/Genes.”

Critics claimed the ad echoed Nazi propaganda, sending some fans into a social media frenzy.

The new feature flopped, as opening weekend projections had already suggested a bleak performance.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is projected to rake in only $850,000 from 1,100 theatres, landing it in 16th place at the box office.

Social media reactions to Sweeney’s political views have added fuel to the fire.

Some fans expressed anger over her Republican registration in Florida ahead of the 2024 election.

“So you voted for trump? The man in the Epstein files??”, one wrote.

“I lost you at registered republican,” another penned.

Meanwhile supporters defended her and celebrated her unapologetic presence.

“America loves Sydney ,” one fan claimed.

Despite festival buzz, the film has received lukewarm reviews, currently sitting at 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.
