King Charles’s state banquets aren’t just grand, they’re guarded like a royal fortress.
With French President Emmanuel Macron visiting the UK this week, security at Windsor Castle has reportedly been dialled up to the extreme ahead of the official state banquet.
Former royal chef Graham Tinsley revealed just how intense things get when heads of state are in attendance.
According to Tinsley, royal catering staff aren’t allowed anywhere near the venue without being first escorted by police, sometimes via motorcycle convoys, and put through strict security checks.
“If we were catering for a Heads of State banquet, then all the catering staff would have to meet at a police station and get a motorcycle ride into Cardiff Castle,” he told Hello! Magazine.
Food, knives, and cooking equipment are scanned by X-ray machines, and even kitchen kits are inspected.
Some banquets are reportedly given secret code names to maintain security, according to Tinsley.
Tonight’s banquet, being held at Windsor Castle due to Buckingham Palace renovations, will see speeches from both King Charles and President Macron, all under layers of high-level security.
