Meghan Markle may have made history with her British Vogue guest-edit in 2019, but apparently, her behind-the-scenes vibe didn’t quite sit right with Buckingham Palace.

In a recent discussion unpacking royal gossip, Daily Mail’s Richard Eden and royal editor Rebecca English spilled that the Duchess of Sussex “gave Palace insiders the ick” when she filmed playful promo clips with then-editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, while wearing sparkly red party hats.

Although the palace was reportedly “very supportive” of Meghan’s Forces for Change issue, which became the fastest-selling British Vogue issue in the magazine’s history, sources say they weren’t thrilled with her “silly celebrity” energy in the BTS content.

“I know… she did a bit of behind-the-scenes video with Edward Enninful to publicise that, and at one point they were wearing kind of party hats,” English explained.

“And I know that didn’t go down well in Palace circles.”

Eden chimed in bluntly: “It wasn’t very regal, was it?”

Apparently, while the issue’s messaging landed, focusing on trailblazing women from all walks of life, the tone of the promotional content reportedly clashed with what palace aides expect from a working royal.

“Someone described it to me as giving them the ick,” English said.
