Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has finally broken his silence on Meghan Markle, and his words were surprisingly glowing.
Speaking on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, Sarandos praised the Duchess of Sussex’s “remarkable influence” and defended the couple’s ongoing partnership with the streaming giant.
“One thing we learned early with Meghan is that she has remarkable influence,” Sarandos said.
“When we did the documentary with her and Harry, people broke down every frame of the trailer. The $20 shoes she wore sold out worldwide. The $1,500 blanket in the background sold out too.”
Sarandos also called Meghan’s 2022 Netflix documentary with Harry “successful in every measure,” hailing it as one of the platform’s most-watched documentaries.
His comments come despite the lukewarm reception of Meghan’s lifestyle series With Love, which debuted its second season earlier this year.
Paired with her As Ever brand selling wine, jams, and artisanal food products, Netflix also takes a cut of the profits through an equity partnership.
“She has incredible power and influence,” Sarandos continued.
“The real challenge is making that a holistic thing - building the entertainment first, then extending into consumer products.”
