Whitney Cummings has a bold theory about Meghan Markle’s Netflix series, With Love, Meghan—and it’s not about lifestyle tips.
The comedian took to TikTok on Tuesday to share her “hot take,” claiming that the Duchess of Sussex created the show as a way to get back at the royal family after she and Prince Harry stepped down as senior royals in 2020.
“I don’t think she’s trying to make a good show for you guys, no offense,” Cummings, 41, said in her video. “This has nothing to do with making a good show. This show, to me, is just her subtly roasting the royal family. This isn’t made for us. This is made for, like, 30 people in that castle. That’s all she’s doing.”
Cummings pointed to multiple moments in the series that she believes serve as hidden jabs at the royals—starting with Markle’s casual approach to tea.
One of Markle’s segments in With Love, Meghan teaches viewers how to make sun tea at home, something Cummings believes is more than just a simple drink tutorial.
“She’s like, ‘Tea is not a big deal. You just put it outside and let it steep in the sun. It’s not fancy,’” Cummings explained. “Tea is like their thing over there! She’s like, ‘Tea should just be enjoyed, it doesn’t even matter what temperature it is.’ Burn!”
Cummings also highlighted Markle’s homemade jam recipe as another potential royal dig.
Markle shares how she prefers making her own fruit preserves instead of using store-bought jam, saying she finds most jams too sweet.
Cummings pointed out that King Charles has been making and selling his own jams since 2010, making Markle’s remarks feel like a direct counter to the royal tradition.
“And her whole thing was like, ‘Oh jam’s too sweet. It’s way too much sugar, so I do preserves,’” Cummings noted.
“She’s just doing this with her in-laws, like, she’s just making this show at them,” the Good For You podcast host continued. “Like, it’s not for us you guys. The fact that she keeps going, ‘It’s not about perfection, it’s not about perfection’ –– that’s what the royal family is all about.”
Cummings made it clear that she isn’t taking sides in the ongoing tension between Meghan and the royals, admitting that being a princess sounds like a “nightmare” to her.
“I just see people losing their minds being mad at the show,” she added. “I don’t think she cares if you like it. It’s just a big [expletive] you to the prom court over there across the pond.”
As per Netflix, Meghan’s new show features her "reimagining the genre of lifestyle programming” along with her celebrity friends as they roll “up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same”.
The series is part of Meghan and Prince Harry’s multi-year deal with Netflix, which they signed in 2020. The eight-part lifestyle series will mark Meghan’s return to her roots, featuring hosting and entertaining tips while welcoming celebrity friends on the show.
Despite the controversy, the series has already been renewed for a second season, continuing to showcase Meghan’s take on hosting, cooking, and home life.
