The controversy surrounding Meghan Markle and allegations of bullying against royal staff has resurfaced, with Jason Knauf, the former communications secretary for Prince Harry, Prince William, and their spouses, addressing the claims in a new interview.
Knauf, who was the first to accuse Markle of bullying staff, appeared on a special episode of 60 Minutes Australia, where he was asked about the impact of these allegations and whether he regretted speaking out.
When asked if he faced any challenges after the accusations went public, Knauf stood firm, saying he wouldn’t change anything.
According to Fox News Digital, royal experts claim that Prince William was aware that Knauf would be questioned about the allegations before the interview took place.
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich stated: "[Knauf] wouldn’t have acquiesced to the interview without consulting and gaining the approval of Prince William since they remain close and work together on the Earthshot Awards.”
She further added: "We know this is an informal reinforcement of those allegations being totally legitimate right from the top. If there were any doubts Meghan Markle was all she was stated to be, as a bully, then this interview wouldn’t have been approved by Prince William.”
She also emphasized Knauf’s loyalty to the crown, saying: "Jason, loyal as ever to the crown, also wouldn’t even consider conducting it without upfront approval."
During the interview, Knauf was asked about the increased public scrutiny following his claims. He admitted the attention was challenging but suggested it was a natural part of his role.
"I think it's tough, but it's probably quite good. You know, as someone who has been helping other people through how to deal with the public eye, you probably have to take your own medicine sometimes," he said.
Knauf also pointed out that public scrutiny is something everyone involved with the royal family has to face, adding: "You can’t choose just to take the fun stuff in any job, and that applies to the prince and princess as well as everyone else working for them. So, I wouldn’t change anything."
Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior royals in 2020, citing press intrusion, lack of support, and a desire for independence.
