Bad Bunny’s Spider-Man Movie, ‘El Muerto’ is not going to swing anytime soon.

The Spider-Man spinoff film El Muerto, which stars Bad Bunny and is directed by Jonas Cuarón, has been withdrawn from Sony Pictures' schedule, the company announced on Wednesday. The Columbia Pictures movie will mark the first of a Latino protagonist in a Marvel live-action movie.

Cuarón will direct El Muerto in October, according to Sony and Marvel. El Muerto, a character from the Spider-Man world, was the subject of a script written at the time by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. He is an antihero who is the son of a luchador who is next in line to receive the "El Muerto" ancestors' power, according to Marvel legend.

The movie is still in production, but it's difficult to set a release date because of Bad Bunny's tour schedule and the ongoing WGA strike.

El Muerto was originally scheduled by the studio to open in theatres on January 12, 2024. Today it was announced that The Book of Clarence, a Legendary Pictures production directed by Jeymes Samuel and starring LaKeith Stanfield, will take up that time slot. The date of release for The Book of Clarence had been set for September 22, 2023, previously.
