Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, is an American rapper, record producer, and record executive.
Combs was born and raised in Harlem, New York City. He lost his father when he was three, and went on to move to suburban Mount Vernon, New York.
He founded Bad Boy Records in 1993, representing artists like Usher and Notorious B.I.G
Combs took up the stage name Puffy or Puff Daddy, and released his debut album, No Way Out. His single from the album, I’ll Be Missing You went on to win him a Grammy award.
Combs has had several high-profile relationships throughout his career, including his longest relationship with Kim Porter, with whom he had three children, and Jennifer Lopez, Misa Hylton, Cassie Ventura, and Dana Tran.
In 1999, Combs was found partially liable for the City College stampede and was made to pay settlements on several resulting claims. The same year, he also pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment with a record company executive.
After he was acquitted from all these charges in 2001, Combs changed his stage name from Puff Daddy to P.Diddy. With his new identity, he released his second album, The Saga Continues.
However, the clean break did not last for long as he was to return to his legal troubles. In 2023 several lawsuits emerged against Diddy, accusing him of sexual harassment, sex trafficking, and rape.
Notable among those was the lawsuit filed by his former employee and girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura. Cassie alleged that she had been a decade-long victim of abuse on the hands of Diddy.
The suit was settled outside of court for a while until more victims came forward around the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, claiming that Diddy had assaulted and trafficked them.
In March 2024, Combs’s homes in Miami Beach and Los Angeles were raided by federal agents and finally in September that year, he was arrested in New York City on the charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
Diddy pleaded not guilty and awaited his trial in prison which began on May 12th, 2025.
