Netflix is standing firmly behind its explosive new docuseries Sean Combs: The Reckoning clarifying their stance on the matter.
Earlier, Diddy and his team publicly trashed the project as a “shameful hit piece” built on “stolen footage.”
The streaming giant pushed back hard, dismissing every accusation saying, “The claims being made about Sean Combs: The Reckoning are false,” a Netflix spokesperson told Variety.
The source continued on the subject and said the series has zero ties to any previous conversations with Combs.
“The footage leading up to his indictment and arrest was legally obtained. This is not a hit piece or revenge project,” they concluded.
The platform also clarified that while Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson serves as an executive producer, he does not have creative control, and “no one was paid to participate.”
Director Alexandria Stapleton also stepped in to shut down claims that the footage was “stolen.”
“One thing about Sean Combs is that he’s always filming himself,” she said.
“We moved heaven and earth to keep the filmmaker’s identity confidential. We also reached out to his legal team multiple times for comment, but never heard back,” the director added.
Diddy’s rep maintains that he has “been amassing footage since he was 19 to tell his own story,” accusing Netflix of twisting his words and pulling from material he never intended for release.
Amid the mounting back-and-forth, one thing is clear: Sean Combs: The Reckoning has become Netflix’s most controversial drop of the season and it’s now streaming worldwide.
