Johnny Galecki is officially returning to acting after a seven-year hiatus, marking his first role since The Big Bang Theory concluded in 2019.
The actor announced that he will star as celebrated playwright Tennessee Williams in the upcoming Chicago stage production of Kowalski.
The 51-year-old shared the news on Instagram, revealing that the play will run from Sept. 19 through Oct. 25.
In a heartfelt statement, Galecki reflected on stepping away from Hollywood, explaining that the past several years allowed him to focus on living life rather than performing.
According to People, he added that those experiences have given him a renewed perspective as he returns to the stage.
During his time away from acting, Galecki prioritized family life with his wife, Morgan, their two-year-old daughter, Oona Evelena, and his six-year-old son, Avery Orbison, whom he shares with former partner Alaina Meyer.
The actor has occasionally shared glimpses of family vacations and milestone moments on social media but largely stayed out of the public eye.
Kowalski, written by Gregg Ostrin and directed by Colin Hanlon, explores the life of Tennessee Williams and the creative journey behind A Streetcar Named Desire.
Furthermore, Galecki said the opportunity to work with the production's creative team convinced him it was the right project to end his extended break.
