Ann Widdecombe's murder investigation has taken a dramatic turn after police released the only suspect arrested in connection with her death and launched a fresh manhunt for the killer.

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that a 26-year-old white British man, who had been arrested on suspicion of murder, has been released without charge and is no longer under investigation.

Detectives said extensive inquiries remain ongoing as they continue searching for the person responsible for the fatal attack.

According to Daily Mail, Widdecombe was found dead at her home in Haytor, Dartmoor, on Thursday after sustaining serious injuries.

Investigators believe she was attacked the previous day and have ruled out terrorism or any political motive, adding that there is no wider threat to the public.

Officers are continuing forensic examinations, reviewing CCTV footage and conducting house-to-house inquiries as part of the investigation.

Moreover, police have also appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward while urging the public to avoid speculation that could hinder the case.

Widdecombe served as a Conservative MP from 1987 until 2010 before later joining the Brexit Party and Reform UK.

Following her political career, she became a familiar face on British television through appearances on Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity Big Brother.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the political spectrum, with leaders and former colleagues remembering Widdecombe for her outspoken views and decades of public service.
