Meryl Streep fights back tears after surprise messege from her co-star Jennifer Lawn Lejeune.

Lejeune starred as Eva Zawistowska, in Holocaust drama, Sophie’s Choice.

During an interview on French news program Journal de 20 heures.

At the tail end of a conversation with Stanley Tucci to promote their highly anticipated new sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, host Laurent Delahousse pivoted the conversation to Streep's acclaimed turn in Sophie's Choice, and handed her a tablet.

The tab played a video featuring LawnLejeune, who said, “Amazing how it stays with you. I even told my mother that [Streep] was my favorite mother, because Meryl Streep was always nice to me and playing with me."

By this point Streep realised who is the person speaking and turned her eyes to the ceiling and opened her mouth in amazement, slightly repositioning the tablet so Tucci could watch too.

Lejeune concluded, “I think if she wasn't able to build that bond with me, there's no way we would ever have had that kind of reaction on set.”

The Mamma Mia! become emotional, hand clutched to her heart she asked if it’s the same girl, and the interviewer confirmed it, informing that Lejeune is all grown up now.

Streep then asked about her whereabouts and learned that she is living in Paris.

"Well that's amazing," Streep remarked. "That's very beautiful, thank you for that. What a gift. Journalists never give me gifts!"

Adapted from William Styron's 1979 novel of the same name, Sophie's Choice follows the haunted post-war life of Streep's Zofia "Sophie" Zawistowska, living in a Brooklyn boarding house in 1947 and sitting on a soul-shattering memory.
