Barbie Ferreira has admitted she feared her shock horror reboot Faces of Death might never see the light of day, after the project was shot back in 2023.
The 29-year-old actress takes the lead in the reimagining of the notorious cult mockumentary Faces of Death, and says the long wait for release left her spiralling with doubt over whether audiences would ever actually see it.
Speaking about the experience, Ferreira said she had a “real Hollywood wake-up call”, explaining that it hit her how easily a finished film can simply disappear.
She revealed she constantly worried the project could be censored or quietly shelved due to the original film’s controversial reputation, which saw it banned in multiple countries for its extreme content.
She admitted the uncertainty dragged on for months, leaving her questioning whether all their work would amount to nothing.
But now that the release is finally happening, she says she feels “relieved and excited” that the film is getting its moment after such a stressful wait.
Ferreira also spoke warmly about working alongside Charli XCX, who makes her acting debut in the project.
She said she had been a long-time fan and followed the pop star’s career well before her explosive 2024 success, and even before her Brat era dominance.
The star described filming as a gritty, fast-paced shoot in Louisiana, far removed from Charli’s glamorous pop world, with early call times and long days on set.
She said it was fascinating watching her co-star adapt so quickly to a raw, horror-driven environment.
Ferreira, who previously starred in Euphoria, also reflected on her exit from the hit series in 2022, saying she needed to step away to grow as an actress.
She explained that while she loved the show, she ultimately wanted to explore a wider range of roles and challenge herself beyond one character.
