Michaela Coel has made a shockingly honest confession about her time in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The 38-year-old star revealed that she felt completely out of her depth.
Michaela, who played fierce warrior Aneka in the blockbuster sequel, admitted she struggled with the film’s heavy use of green screen acting.
Speaking candidly, she confessed: “I really don’t think I was ready for that world… I don’t know how to act when something isn’t there.”
Despite working under acclaimed director Ryan Coogler and alongside Hollywood heavyweights like Angela Bassett and Lupita Nyong'o, Chewing Gum actress admitted she often felt “astray” on set.
“I wasn’t ready for Wakanda,” she said, recalling how she watched Bassett “kill her scenes” while she grappled with unfamiliar acting demands.
The star explained that her strengths lie in intimate, dialogue-driven performances rather than CGI-heavy spectacles.
Fresh from the success of her critically acclaimed series I May Destroy You, Michaela also revealed she felt intense pressure to capitalise on her momentum but refused to let fear guide her choices.
“There was this idea that I had to seize the moment,” she shared.
“But that comes from fear… and I don’t feel comfortable making decisions based on that.”
Off-screen, The Christophers actress continues to win admiration from close friend Paapa Essiedu, who praised not just her talent, but her “limitless heart” and courage.
