Maya Hawke has lifted the lid on the musical icon who shaped her sound.
The 27-year-old actress-turned-singer is gearing up to release her new album Maitreya Corso on May 1, and she’s not shy about the impact Taylor Swift has had on her artistry.
Speaking candidly, the Stranger Things favourite gushed that the chart-topping singer has “hugely influenced” her, and an entire generation.
“She made young people feel like their lives and emotions truly matter,” Hawke revealed, praising Swift’s deeply personal songwriting style.
In fact, the star admitted she knows the pop superstar’s music inside out, joking she could jump into any song mid-way and finish it without missing a beat.
But it’s not just music that’s been sparking inspiration in her world.
The rising folk artist also shared a touching behind-the-scenes moment with her Stranger Things co-star Sadie Sink, 23, who she says lit a creative fire under her.
Hawke recalled feeling low and uninspired on set, until she watched Sink in action.
“She just transformed the room,” she said, describing the moment as “magic” and a much-needed wake-up call.
The experience was so powerful, it inspired her new track Lioness.
In a striking confession, she even dubbed Sink “the greatest actress of our generation”, crediting her with reminding her why she fell in love with acting in the first place.
