Snoop Dogg's iconic career to be celebrated in new biopic

Snoop Dogg's remarkable journey from the streets of Long Beach to global superstardom is finally heading to the big screen, with fans now having a date to mark in their calendars.

Universal Pictures has confirmed that the long-awaited biopic will arrive in cinemas on August 6, 2027, with Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss stepping into the shoes of the rap icon. 

The 26-year-old actor will portray Snoop during the defining moments of his rise to fame, while Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer takes charge behind the camera.

The film will chart Snoop's early struggles before his breakthrough in the 1990s after joining Death Row Records, where he worked alongside hip-hop legends including Dr Dre and the late Tupac Shakur. 

It will also revisit the release of his groundbreaking debut album, Doggystyle, which cemented his place in music history.

But the movie won't stop at his chart success. 

It is also expected to explore his evolution into a businessman, actor and pop culture favourite, from Hollywood roles to bestselling cookbooks and his bold business ventures, including his cannabis brand.

The project has been years in the making, with Baby Boy star first announcing his involvement as a producer in 2022. 

At the time, he revealed he had waited patiently to find the right creative team to tell his story, describing the partnership with Universal as "holy matrimony, not holy macaroni".

Universal chairwoman Donna Langley hailed the rapper as a "singular artist" whose life has left an undeniable mark on popular culture.

The film will also serve as the first release from Snoop's Death Row Pictures, after his acquisition of Death Row Records in 2022, and is expected to feature many of the star's biggest hits.
