Justin Trudeau's eldest son is determined to prove he's more than just a famous surname after stepping into the spotlight with another confident live performance.

The 18-year-old rapper, Xavier Trudeau, wowed crowds at Ottawa's Shawarma Fest in June, taking to the stage in a laid-back outfit of beige trousers and a black T-shirt as fans gathered to hear his autotune-inspired tracks.

Afterwards, he thanked concertgoers on Instagram, writing: "Shawarma Fest, you were fun. Thank you, Ottawa for having me."

The performance marks another milestone for the rising artist, who released his debut single, 'Til the Nights Done, in February 2025 and has been steadily building a fanbase.

But while Xavier is eager to make his own mark, he admits life as the son of Canada's former Prime Minister hasn't always made things easy.

Speaking about the downside of growing up in the public eye, he revealed that some people judge him before they've even heard his music.

"If they don't like my dad, right away, they don't like me," he said, adding that criticism is fair if people genuinely dislike his songs, but not if they refuse to give him a chance because of his family.

Despite the scrutiny, he believes there are positives to his famous background and says he's focused on creating his own identity rather than living in his father's shadow.

He has also found an unexpected mentor in Katy Perry, who is now dating his father, Justin.

Xavier revealed he regularly sends the pop superstar his latest songs and values her honest feedback.

Describing Katy as "super nice" and "down to earth", the young musician said her guidance has been invaluable as he works towards his dream of inspiring fans through music.
