BTS fans in Chile may finally have reason to celebrate after the government signalled it could reverse its decision to block the group's sold-out Santiago concerts after a wave of public backlash.
The K-pop superstars, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook, are due to bring their ARIRANG world tour to Chile on October 14, 16 and 17, with around 48,000 fans expected to pack Estadio Nacional each night.
The shows would mark the band's first visit to the country since 2017 and their first performances following the members' military service.
Last week, hopes were dashed when Chile's National Sports Institute (IND) warned that BTS' spectacular 360-degree stage could seriously damage the stadium's hybrid pitch.
Officials also argued that the lengthy construction and dismantling process would clash with football fixtures, the 2026 Telethon and other major events already booked at the venue.
Alternative locations were suggested, but none were considered capable of accommodating the group's elaborate production or the huge crowds expected across the three-night run.
The decision sparked outrage among the BTS ARMY, with hundreds of fans dressed in the band's trademark purple taking to the streets of Santiago and marching towards the presidential palace.
Protesters carried banners demanding the concerts remain at the National Stadium, while many shared emotional stories about what the group means to them.
The demonstrations appear to have had an impact.
Promoter DG Medios has now submitted a revised technical proposal outlining stronger measures to protect the pitch and safely distribute the stage's weight.
Chile's government confirmed it is now reviewing the updated plans and said approval remains possible if further technical documents and guarantees are provided.
Officials also revealed they plan to introduce stricter rules preventing promoters from selling tickets before venues receive final approval.
