Snoop Dogg is swapping the mic for the big screen in what he calls a “life-changing” move.
The 54-year-old rap legend has signed up for the upcoming film God of the Rodeo, a hard-hitting drama set inside Louisiana’s notorious Angola Prison in 1967.
Directed and written by Rosalind Ross, and produced by Giannina Scott and Hollywood icon Ridley Scott, the film promises grit, heart, and plenty of Snoop swagger.
“Linking up with Scott Free Productions and working with Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott on God of the Rodeo is life changing and an honour,” he told Deadline.
“Rosalind Ross brought a story with heart and grit, and that’s what I’m about.”
But Baby Boy actor isn’t just acting but he’s producing too.
Alongside his Death Row Pictures partner Sara Ramaker, he’ll help bring the story to life, while Death Row Records will handle the soundtrack.
“We’re bringing an important story and something special to the screen,” he said, teasing a “soundtrack with soul.”
The movie is about Buckkey, a tough prisoner who sees a chance to change through the prison’s first rodeo for inmates, only to discover it’s really a deadly show put on for the public and the warden’s cruel enjoyment.
Giannina Scott praised Snoop as “one of the most gifted and influential artists alive,” while Ramaker said the project speaks to “legacy, resilience, and truth.”
