Ed Sheeran has revealed he was left feeling “jealous” after hearing Alex Warren’s huge hit Ordinary, but in the best possible way.
The 35-year-old superstar made the confession while welcoming the 25-year-old singer on stage during his Loop Tour show at Petco Park in San Diego on Tuesday.
The pair surprised fans with a special duet of Alex’s emotional 2025 track, which became one of the biggest songs of the year.
Before their performance, Ed told the crowd he had been blown away by the song when he first heard it.
“I met someone last year who released a song that I was jealous of. I loved the song,” he said.
“I got in touch with him, and I was like, ‘We should sing this song together, I love this song.’”
The Shape of You hitmaker then joked that Alex had reached out to ask if he and his family could attend the San Diego show, and Ed had one request in return.
“I was like, yes, but I would like to sing with you,” he told the audience.
His Ordinary has enjoyed a remarkable run on the charts, spending 11 consecutive weeks at No.1 in the UK.
The achievement made it the longest-running UK chart-topper by a US male solo artist in more than seven decades and tied with Ed’s own Bad Habits as one of the longest-running No.1 singles of the 2020s.
For Alex, sharing the stage with Ed has been a dream come true.
The singer previously admitted it felt “weird” performing alongside artists he once looked up to, including Lana Del Rey.
Reflecting on his rise, Alex said it was surreal that musicians who inspired him while growing up now knew who he was.
