Latin superstar Bad Bunny is swapping stadiums for the silver screen after landing his first leading role in the explosive historical drama Porto Rico.

The 31-year-old chart-topper, real name Benito Martínez Ocasio, is set to headline the gripping film about Puerto Rico’s origins, marking a major milestone in his acting career.

After scene-stealing turns in Bullet Train alongside Brad Pitt and a role in Caught Stealing, this is his moment to take centre stage.

Director Rene Perez Joglar admitted the project has been a lifelong dream.

“Puerto Rico’s true history has always been surrounded by controversy,” he said, promising a story told with “intensity and honesty”.

And what a supporting cast he’s assembled.

Hollywood heavyweights Edward Norton, Javier Bardem and Viggo Mortensen will star alongside the music icon.

Norton compared the film’s ambition to classics like The Godfather and Gangs of New York, hinting at epic drama and powerful storytelling.

The announcement caps off a whirlwind few weeks for Bad Bunny, who wowed millions at the Super Bowl and scooped top honours at the Grammys, including Album of the Year.

Fellow Puerto Rican megastar Ricky Martin led the tributes, praising his “brother” in a heartfelt column and calling his success “a cultural and human victory”.
