Murray Lionsgate has teased fans with the trailer of prequel The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
The forthcoming edition revisits 24 years before events of The Hunger Games trilogy, which started in the world of Panem.
The prelude originated from the morning of the reaping of the 50th games, known as the Second Quarter Quell.
The last movie was released in 2023, titled The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. This volume is based on Suzanne Collins’ novel, the fifth installment in the series.
The project is part of a growing franchise that includes a planned stage adaptation in London, building on a global box office success of over $3.4 billion. The film is produced by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force.
The teaser featured Whitney Peak, McKenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Glenn Close and Kieran Culkin.
Notably, in the footage Woody Harrelson voiced, “I think these games are gonna be different.”
Fans are curious as they can’t wait for the belated release, “Dropping the teaser exactly a year before the release date is really.... well, a teaser.”
Another added, “WHYYYYY 2026, WHYYYYYYYYY” with loudly crying face emojis.
The backstory of the anticipated film is scheduled for theatrical release on November 20, 2026.
