The US election this year could be decided by just a handful of ‘swing states’ as a small margin of votes there could determine the winner. These states have historically voted for different parties in presidential elections and are thus, the center of attention this time around.

While analysts have identified a dozen of such states in the current presidential election, following six are believed to be the most crucial.

Arizona

The state has not seen a winning Democratic nominee in 24 years, since Bill Clinton last took the state. Trump won Arizona by roughly 3.5 percentage points in 2016. Biden has a chance to sweep off support from the senior population this time due to Trump’s poor handling of the Covid-19 pandemic putting the old citizens at risk.

Iowa

While the state voted for the Democratic president Obama in 2008 and 2012 elections, in 2016 Iowa residents chose red over blue. Trump won the state by 10 points in previous election. Despite gaining the lost ground of Democrats in Iowa, Biden seems unlikely to pull ahead in the mid-western state.

Ohio

Victory in Ohio is very crucial and not just for its 18 electoral college votes. The winner of this state has taken the White House for the last 14 presidential elections, including when the state turned red in 2016 with a Trump victory.

North Carolina

The state is the real toss-up. Both the presidential nominees spent quite a lot time there in their last campaign days. Trump visited the state a dozen times, including a rally on the Sunday before election day in Hickory while the Biden campaign also focused on the state with Harris rallying there on the Sunday before election day.

Georgia

The state already broken records in early in-person voting with close to two million people turning out to the polls. According to local analysts, the surge in early voting appears in favor of Democrats.

Florida

The state is a coveted prize with Trump likely to seal it. The Republican president had won the state back in 2016. Almost 2.5 million people voted early as of Sunday, nearly surpassing the total number of votes cast in the state in the entire 2016 election. Trump has been to Florida to campaign more than a dozen times this year, while Biden has been there three times only.
