A surprising offer made to Prince Andrew for a royal refuge has been dramatically withdrawn after the benefactor received a wave of violent threats.
Lady Samantha Carbisdale, a businesswoman and barrister who owns the 19-bedroom Carbisdale Castle in Scotland, had offered the disgraced royal and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson exclusive use of her estate as their new home amid eviction calls from Royal Lodge.
Lady Samantha extended the invitation publicly last week, describing her castle as “more fit to receive a prince.”
However, the decision sparked outrage online, and soon turned sinister.
Posting on Facebook, Lady Samantha revealed she had received “hostile” and even “violent” messages after her offer went viral.
“Many of these views were threatening towards me,” she wrote, adding that she had no choice but to withdraw the proposal.
Despite retracting her offer, the barrister said she had written to King Charles to assure him that the castle “remains at the disposal of the Royal Family” if needed.
Lady Samantha, who purchased the castle in 2022, had said she believed Andrew was being “hounded unfairly” and deserved “a proper hearing.”
