Prince Andrew’s bizarre demands, and harsh punishments for royal staff come to surface

Fresh scrutiny has fallen on Prince Andrew as shocking new details about his behaviour toward palace staff have resurfaced amid calls for him to leave Royal Lodge.

According to royal biographer Andrew Lownie’s book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, the disgraced royal made a series of “bizarre” demands, including ordering maids to climb four flights of stairs simply to open his curtains, even when he was lying right beside them.

Lownie writes that Andrew insisted staff bow to him whenever he entered a room and if they forgot, he would leave and re-enter, saying: “Let’s try that again.”

The book also alleges he “punished” aides over minor grievances, from disliking a mole on one man’s face to banning another for wearing a nylon tie.

Former palace maid Charlotte Briggs, who worked for Andrew in the 1990s, revealed he kept 72 teddy bears meticulously arranged in size order on his bed, and would fly into a rage if they were misplaced.
