Amal Clooney has gone viral after a resurfaced video of her greeting King Charles at Buckingham Palace sparked a heated debate online.
The 46-year-old human rights lawyer attended the King’s Trust Awards alongside husband George Clooney in June, but it wasn’t the glitzy event that grabbed attention.
In a short clip circulating on social media, Amal appears to cross her legs and skip a curtsy, offering instead a polite bow and handshake as she greeted the monarch.
While the King appeared perfectly relaxed and continued chatting with the couple, some royal fans were less forgiving.
“So disrespectful! Amal can’t even curtsy to The King!” one user fumed. Another added: “Crossing her legs in front of the King? That’s rude!”
Others, however, rushed to defend her, pointing out that curtsying is not mandatory, and reminding critics that Amal is both British and Lebanese, not American as some commenters assumed.
According to the Royal Family’s official website, there are “no obligatory codes of behaviour” when meeting the King.
