Can celebrities really help bump Joe Biden's vote count? Here's the answer

With just one week until the presidential election, it seems as if Joe Biden has all the support from almost all celebrities including Cardi B, Tom Hanks, Madonna, Dwayne Johnson and Taylor Swift. 

These big names of Hollywood have shown their full support for the democratic candidate and his running mate, Kamala Harris. 

Taylor Swift requested fans to vote for Biden and Harris in V magazine editorial, and she further posted her endorsement on Instagram. Cardi B has also been vocal in her support for Biden on social media. Meanwhile, Dwayne Johnson also persuaded fans to vote for Biden and Harris labelling them as "the best choice for the country."

But will these celebrities' endorsement bump Joe Biden's vote count?

Research from the past shows some evidence for the claim. 

In 2008, Oprah Winfrey endorsed Barack Obama in the election which resulted in one million more votes for him. The researchers termed it as the ‘Oprah Effect’. "The joke is that she [Oprah] picked the president," said journalist Cooper Lawrence.

However, there is still no record of such bump in votes caused by celebrity endorsement in a general election. 

So, let’s keep our fingers crossed and wait if celebrity endorsement really has an impact on the vote count or not.
