Taylor Swift dishes on how her family helped to get her masters back

Grammy-winning pop singer Taylor Swift acquired her master recordings earlier this year, and she just revealed how her mum, Andrea, and brother Austin helped in the process.

On May 30, 2025, Swift repurchased her recording catalog and regained ownership of the master recordings for her first six albums, a deal that had taken six years.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show on Friday, October 3, about her new album The Life of a Showgirl, she talked about regaining ownership of her masters.

“You bought it all back from a corporate entity,” Graham stated. “You’d imagine there’d be an army of lawyers talking to another army of lawyers, but that is not how it went down.”

“No, I sent in my mum and my brother,” Swift said, explaining, “So basically, my music was owned by a company called Shamrock Capital.”

The Grammy-winning singer added, “We had to try to figure out how to convince them to sell a very lucrative entity to us, even though it was still making them loads of money.”

Swift explained that the only useful people in this process for her are those “who have known me my entire life, know this entire journey I’ve been on, who’ve been supporting me, and who I work with every day.”

“They both work with me, and they are the smartest people I know,” she said of her mother and brother, noting that they are “compassionate and the kindest.”

“So they went in and got my music back for me,” Swift concluded.
