50 Cent, widely recognised for his chart-topping hits and larger-than-life persona, is over the moon after receiving a surprise shoutout on Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl.
The 50-year-old rapper couldn’t hide his excitement, taking to Instagram to celebrate the nod on the sixth track, Ruin the Friendship.
“@taylorswift s*** is popping right now, she shout me out, she don’t shout you out. LOL THIS IS FOR BIG TIMERS ONLY! Wait I’m the only shout out on the whole album,” he wrote.
The emotional song sees Taylor reflecting on a teenage crush and the regret of not taking a risk.
Fans were quick to spot the reference to 50 Cent in the lyrics: “And it was not an invitation/But as the 50 Cent song played/Should’ve kissed you anyway… Would’ve been the best mistake/Should’ve kissed you anyway, hey.”
Speculation continues that the track is inspired by her late friend Jeffrey Lang, who passed away aged 21 in 2010.
The Blank Space hitmaker previously revealed she sang at his funeral, describing him as “one of my best friends.”
Despite the album hype, the songstress insists she’s not rushing back to the road.
Speaking on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James, she said she’s exhausted at the thought of touring again but wants to “do it really, really well” if she does.
Her record-breaking Eras Tour, spanning 149 shows, remains one of the most astonishing runs in music history.
