Karol G has recently delivered a powerful statement as she becomes the first Latina star to perform at this year’s Coachella music festival.
The singer addresses the crowd as she speaks about her struggling Latino community during her historic set at the California music festival on April 12.
The Colombian star states she feels “proud to be the first Latina woman to headline Coachella” as it took 27 years.
Karol, born as Carolina Giraldo Navarro also tells the crowd that for her Latinos who are “struggling” in the United States, they “stand” for them.
So, “don’t feel fear because it's not just about me… it's about my Latino community, my people,” says the songstress.
While closing her set, Karol points out that Latinos want “everyone to feel welcome to our culture, to our roots, to our music”.
“I just want everyone to feel proud of where you come from please. Feel proud,” adds the singer.
In the end, Karol admits that through her music and this show, she “wants to continue building love and understanding” for Latino community.
“A resilient, hardworking community that has contributed so much. I understand that countries have laws, but when things cross the line of basic human dignity, that's when it becomes difficult to process,” she concludes.
