When it comes to modern royal style, Kate Middleton’s iconic Self-Portrait dresses are staple as she takes credit for making them popular.
The London-based label first became a royal favourite in 2016, when the Princess of Wales stepped out in a white lace gown at the premiere of A Street Cat Named Bob.
Since then, Han Chong’s designs, defined by sharp tailoring, romantic lace and accessible price points, have become a staple in Kate’s wardrobe.
The so-called “Kate effect” quickly spread, with Meghan Markle and even Princess Madeleine of Sweden following suit. Meghan in particular gave the brand a global boost.
She wore a vivid red embroidered maxi in Tonga during her 2018 royal tour, a look that dominated headlines.
A year earlier, she had chosen a lace Self-Portrait dress with a sheer bodice and midi skirt for Queen Elizabeth II’s Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace.
