Princess Anne has made a surprise visit to war-torn Ukraine, paying a deeply personal tribute to the young victims of the conflict.
The Princess Royal, 75, travelled to Kyiv on Tuesday for a one-day mission at the request of the UK’s Foreign Office, where she met President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska.
During her visit, Princess Anne laid a teddy bear at a poignant memorial dedicated to children who have lost their lives since the start of the Russian invasion.
She also toured the Child Rights Protection Centre, where she listened to heartbreaking stories from families whose children had been returned and reintegrated, while praising staff working tirelessly to bring more youngsters home.
Her packed schedule included meetings with female police and armed forces representatives, as well as cultural visits to St Sofia’s Cathedral and the Kherson Cultural Exhibition.
