American comedian Jimmy Fallon has made it clear he won’t be turning The Tonight Show into a political battlefield amid Trump attacks.

The 51-year-old host opened up during an appearance on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, where he admitted he’s steering clear of the political wars currently swirling around late-night TV.

This is due to growing pressure and a fresh round of digs from US President Donald Trump.

His remarks come after fellow chat show star Jimmy Kimmel was briefly suspended and then reinstated after controversial comments about conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

“Our show has never really been that political,” Fallon explained.

“We hit both sides equally and just try to make everybody laugh. That’s really the way our show works. I just keep my head down and make sure the jokes are funny.”

Trump, however, wasn’t impressed as after Kimmel’s suspension, he blasted both Fallons and Meyers on Truth Social, sneering: “That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are horrible. Do it NBC!!!”

Fallon, known for his lighter touch, brushed off the drama with humour.

In his monologue, he joked that his own father had texted to say he was “sorry they cancelled your show.”

And when Kimmel returned to air, Fallon poked fun again, telling viewers: “If you’re tuning in to see what I’ll say about my suspension… you’re watching the wrong Jimmy. The other Jimmy, Dad!”
