Simpsons’ creators announced a second movie in development after two decades since the last film, The Simpsons: The Movie, was released.

As per Deadline, the second film in the long-running TV show will fill a date previously vacated by an untitled Marvel movie.

20th Century Studios will helm the production of the feature, though no director or voice cast has been revealed yet. The untitled Simpsons Movie has acquired a release date of June 23, 2027.

Netizens took to their social media to express their excitement over the news. One fan wrote, “I initially thought this would be treated as a series finale, but the show's renewed through 2029.”

Another well-wisher penned, “My hope is they bang this out and two more seasons' end at the 40th anniversary season.”

Notably, the series first began in 1989 and recently premiered its 37th season on September 29, 2025. It will end after 40 seasons, with more seasons airing in 2028-2029.

Simpsons: The Movie was a box office success when it first came out and garnered $536 million worldwide against a production budget of $75 million.

As of now, it isn’t confirmed if the voice actors for the series will return for the next film.

Are ‘Simpsons’ predictions actually true?

According to netizens, most predictions made by the show have come true, like Trump being president and the winner of Super Bowl XXVI in season 11.
