Sarah Ferguson has paid tribute to her late mother, Susan Barrantes, on the 27th anniversary of her tragic death.
Barrantes, who died in a fatal car crash in Argentina in 1998 at the age of 61, left a profound mark on the Duchess of York’s life.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the 65-year-old royal penned an emotional note: “My dearest Mum, I would love to tell you and show you how brilliantly your grandchildren are doing as mothers. Thank you for giving me the Irish magic and enthusiasm of life. Love you. Your devoted daughter Sarah.”
The message comes as Sarah continues to reflect on the complicated relationship she shared with her mother.
At just 12 years old, Ferguson saw her mother leave the UK to marry Argentinian polo player Hector Barrantes, a decision that deeply affected her childhood.
Writing earlier this year, Sarah admitted her mother’s absence left “profound scars,” contributing to feelings of “unworthiness” and struggles with food. “It often threatened to spiral into a full-scale eating disorder,” she shared.
