Donald Trump sparked an awkward moment during the lavish state banquet at Windsor Castle when he appeared to “snub” Queen Camilla in favour of Princess Kate.
The US President, seated beside the Princess of Wales, looked toward her as he thanked “His Majesty and Queen Camilla” during his speech, leaving some guests questioning whether the First Lady of the UK was momentarily overlooked.
Trump then shifted his focus to Prince William and Kate, gushing: “William and Kate, thank you so much, it’s been great being with you today.”
He went on to praise the heir to the throne, calling William a “remarkable son” who will have “unbelievable success in future.”
Kate dazzled the audience in a couture gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley with a gold Chantilly lace overlay, paired with the iconic Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara.
Queen Camilla opted for a striking blue Fiona Clare dress with a matching sash.
The King also addressed the 160 guests, stressing the importance of preserving the environment while joking about the “forefathers of 1776” to warm laughter from Trump.
