Meghan Markle has been labelled “needy” by a royal expert after sharing a photo from her Montecito garden while the US state visit to the UK was underway.
The Duchess of Sussex, 44, posted an image of herself tending strawberries at her California estate on her brand As Ever’s Instagram account.
Captioned “Seasons shift, but the garden stays magic,” the post quickly caught attention online, but its timing sparked criticism.
Royal commentator Robert Jobson argued that Meghan deliberately posted to compete with the Windsor events, where Princess Kate and US First Lady Melania Trump were drawing headlines with their joint outing at a Scouts engagement.
Jobson wrote in The Sun: “Just as Kate and Melania were stealing the show, she was in Montecito, posting about her ‘magical’ strawberry patch. The timing? Predictable. Needy.”
He added: “Kate sparkles. Melania shines. Meghan sprinkles.”
The expert went further, suggesting Meghan missed an opportunity to represent America alongside Harry: “She could have been dazzling at Windsor. Instead, she’s flogging £22 jars of honey, complete with tips about keeping a ‘bee voice’ low in the hive.”
