Queen Camilla showed off her playful side as she joked about one of the most famous scenes in British television history, Colin Firth’s wet-shirt lake moment in the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice.
Speaking at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, the Queen teased her host William Burlington, quipping: “Maybe, William, you could be persuaded to re-enact this memorable moment in the lake here a little later on – to add to the excitement of the day?!”
Her joke was met with laughter from the crowd.
The light-hearted moment came just days after the 77-year-old was forced to cancel engagements due to acute sinusitis.
Despite a croaky throat, Camilla looked in high spirits as she launched the third annual Queen’s Reading Room Festival, which welcomed star authors including Bridgerton writer Julia Quinn and Bridget Jones creator Helen Fielding.
During the day, she also met domestic abuse survivors supported by the Elm Foundation, a local charity partnered with her Reading Room initiative.
“There’s nothing like a book to take you away,” she told festivalgoers.
