'Peacemaker' surprises fans with major 'Suicide Squad' throwback

Peacemaker, famous for John Cena’s mix of humour, intensity, and vulnerability, has surprised fans once again with the return of another familiar face to the DC Universe.

The action-drama was first released in 2022, and its second season premiered on August 21, 2025, drawing wide attention from the audience.

Now, fans got a special treat in the latest episode as Joel Kinnaman, best known for his role as Rick Flag Jr. in the Suicide Squad films, reprised his character in the 2025 TV schedule in a double dose.

First, viewers were taken on a flashback to Rick just before his fateful mission to Corto Maltese, and then introduced to a version of Rick Flag Jr. from an alternate universe.

The appearance of the deceased Rick was a nostalgic nod to The Suicide Squad, delighting long-time fans.

Jennifer Holland, who plays Emilia Harcourt and is married to DC boss James Gunn, revealed to CinemaBlend that Rick and Emilia’s connection has been part of the series’ blueprint since Season 1.

How many episodes will 'Peacemaker' season 2 have?

Season 2 of Peacemaker will consist of eight episodes, with the finale set to air on Thursday, October 9, according to HBO Max.
