Charli XCX recently debuted her film, Erupcja, at the Toronto International Film Festival with mixed reactions from fans.
While releasing her chart-topping album, Brat, the 33-year-old singer filmed the 71-minute film, which she co-wrote, produced, and starred in.
Though fans of the Von Dutch hitmaker loved Charli’s acting, outlets like The Guardian criticised her new venture, giving it a two-star review while calling it ‘shallow’ and ‘gives acting a free trial.’
The above-mentioned outlet also added comments about her portrayal of the lead character.
They said, “Charli reveals little playing her, either extending her pop persona or, in more demanding moments, operating with the over-precision of a diligent student.”
However, netizens were excited about the Grammy winner trying out acting, as she previously announced on her Instagram page that she was directing a mockumentary, The Moment.
One fan wrote, “I am impressed, she seems pretty natural.” Another well-wisher penned, “I am extremely interested to watch and see Charli thrive in this new endeavour.”
Notably, Erupcja follows a British woman played by Charli, who has an explosive relationship with a Polish woman, starring Lena Góra, whilst she’s in the country.
As per The Tab, the songwriter has seven upcoming feature films lined up for the future. These include 100 Nights of Hero, Sacrifice, Faces of Death, and The Gallerist, among others.
She will be working alongside notable actors like Chris Evans, Anya Taylor-Joy, Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery, and Felicity Jones.
No, as per reports, Charli XCX does not have any upcoming new music, as the artist has a packed filming schedule until next year.
