James Gunn’s DC Studios swapped out Jason Momoa’s Aquaman in the Peacemaker season 2 recap with a brand new Justice League member.
On August 21, 2025, Peacemaker season 2 aired with a recap of the last scene from the previous part, in which Zack Snyder's Justice League made a special appearance.
However, in the recap episode, the studio switched out Aquaman with Green Lantern, portrayed by Nathan Fillion.
It wasn’t just Momoa’s character that was changed; Gunn revamped the entire team with Justice Gang, first introduced in his directorial success, Superman.
Bringing in Fillion’s Lantern confirmed fan theories, which speculated that Peacemaker’s first season was set in an alternate reality.
Netizens took to social media to express their sentiments about the sudden switch. One fan wrote, “Such a comic book thing to do. I love it.” Another well-wisher penned, “My jaw was on the floor at the end.”
Notably, Gunn’s decision soft-launched his creative process for the iconic superhero characters that have undergone multiple changes under different directors.
Previously, the 59-year-old filmmaker admitted that the retconning was to welcome a new version of the studios and confessed that he couldn’t reshoot the entire scene due to budget constraints, but changed John Cena’s dialogue in the recap episode.
For the unversed, it was announced last week that James Gunn will take his place behind the camera to film the upcoming Superman: Man of Tomorrow, scheduled to release on 9 July 2027.
The next project James Gunn is working on is Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, played by Milly Alcock. The film will be theatrically released on 26 June 2026.
